Tonight as I reflect on this past weeks adventures I realize life lessons learned potentially relate to business also. I have been in Colorado snow skiing with my wife and two boys for over a week in hopes of creating lasting memories they will never forget as we spend quality time together.

We were standing on the highest mountain in Summit county Colorado today watching several skiers and snow boarders jump high into the air doing amazing tricks as my boys described to me the lingo of exactly what the trick was called. I could tell they were wishing they could jump as high and do all the tricks they were watching. We discussed how the skiers and boarders they were watching got started just as they are now, just a little at a time, and probably with someone sharing and mentoring them through the process. Crawl before you walk and walk before you run, but get started.

I share this because I hear potential real estate investors and friends say all the time if
I could only just get started. Getting started investing happens very much like learning to do ski tricks. Find a mentor that can share there experiences and knowledge in an effort to give you a quantum leap forward through the curve. I have these discussions with my children quite often in an effort to instill in them the philosophy that learning from others that have been there and experienced the process is such a great learning experience. In a previous life, from the age of 25 to 42 I had the great opportunity of participating in a mentoring program in corporate America. There is no question my mentor saved me the grief of struggling so many times by sharing experiences and introducing me to the right people. Because of this I was able to reach my goals internally within the fortune 100 company in record time. I actually had an additional mentor at the same time that was teaching me about real estate. Talk about moving forward through the curve at warp speed. I was able at the age of 42 to retire and now spend time working on my schedule.

Getting started to me means: ( primoris scientia tunc opulentia ) this is Latin for First Knowledge Then Wealth.
